Carlow Co Co have refused planning for Coillte’s Wind Farm at Croaghaun at Mount Leinster, this evening March 18th, 2021.
This is great news for the local community, however, should Coillte appeal the decision and this goes to An Bord Pleanála, we will still need lots of help to keep the campaign going.
The reasons for the refusal are threefold – 1. The wind turbines would have an adverse visual impact on the Blackstairs and Mount Leinster Uplands Landscape Character Area. 2. The proposed site is located in close proximity to the Blackstairs Mountains SAC with indirect upstream hydrological links to the Slaney River Valley SAC and the River Barrow and River Nore SAC; the EIAR did not satisfactorily demonstrate that the proposed development will not adversely impact on various wildlife species in the area protected under the Habitats Directive. 3. The local road network is of restricted width and capacity to accommodate the construction.
